The 54^th Annual Conference of the Oikosnet, Europe was held in the Inter-Orthodox Center of Church of Greece in Penteli from 9-13 September 2009 on the theme: Twenty years after 1989. Riots in the Streets? OikosNet Europe is a European network , part of a Global one, of Christian Laity and retreat Centers, Academies and movements of social concern with members from 17 European countries. At Pentelis Conference participated  representatives from 16 European countries.  An opening address to the Conference was made by the new Director of the Inter-Orthodox Center Pr. Marios Begzos and the main lecture was presented by His Eminence Metropolitan of Thermopyles and Abbot of the Monastery of Penteli John on the Orthodox Spirituality. In the frame of the conference, a discussion took place on the problems, difficulties and the new challenges that Christian Churches and communities face all over Europe. The importance of a vivid co-operation among the Academies and the Lay Centers was stressed by the majority of the participants in relation with the main role they are called to play in a Europe that changes day by day. 

The participants had the opportunity to visit His Beatitude Hieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece and Primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece and to share with him some ideas and proposals on the function, role and the contribution of the Academies in Europe.
