Interdisciplinary Symposium

The Department of Modern Greek Studies of the Faculty of the Humanities, University of Copenhagen (Denmark) organized from 5 to 6 June 2009 an Interdisciplinary Symposium on the theme:

Orthodoxy and Innovation in the Greek-speaking world:

 from Byzantium to the 21st century

The Symposium was held in honor of two women professors, Pr. Sysse Engberg and Pr. Sofia Skopotea (1946-2007), who gave many years of service and enriched the Modern Greek Studies at the Faculty of the Humanities. Initiator and Organizer of the Symposium was Dr. Trine Stauning Willert, a post doc fellow at the Department of Cross-cultural and Regional Studies at the University of Copenhagen. Various current theological and social issues concerning the relationship of Orthodoxy with the cultural and social reality, the identity of Orthodoxy nowadays etc. analyzed by older and younger scholars (theologians, sociologists, anthropologists, historians, political scientists).

Effie Fokas (Director, Forum of Religion, London School of Economics), Dr. Spyridoula Athanasopoulou-Kypriou (Hellenic Open University), Dr. Marios Koukounaras Liagis (Independent Scholar), Eftichia Arvaniti (PhD Candidate/ University of Vienna), Pr. Karsten Fledelius (University of Copenhagen), Dr. Elisabeth Kontogiorgi (Academy of Athens), Pr. Lilian Larsen (Redlands University) & Pr. Samuel Rubenson (Lund University), Pr. Tore Tvarno Lind (University of Copenhagen), Dr. Maria Politi (Greek Paleographical Society), Dr. Eleni Kasselouri- Hatzivasilliadi (Volos Academy for Theological Studies),  Mr. Nikolaos Asproulis (PhD Candidate/Volos Academy for Theological Studies), Dr. Katerina Seraidari (Centre d' Athropologie Sociale Toulouse, France), Pr. Christian Trolsgard (University of Copenhagen) and Dr. Pantelis Kalaitzidis, Director of Volos Academy for Theological Studies (read by Trine Stauning Willert).
