On Orthodox theology’s presence and absence
from the ideological developments of the 20th century,
with contributions from representatives of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies
An international academic seminar of doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars on the central theme “The Presence or the Absence of Orthodox Theological Reflection in Contemporary Ideologies and Its Ecumenical Significance” was held in Prague, Czech Republic, from February 3-5. The seminar was organized by the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague (PTF), in conjunction with the International Baptist Theological Seminary (IBTS) and Jabok College. This conference constituted part of a broader academic program devoted to the issue “The Symbolic Mediation of Wholeness in Western Orthodoxy,” which was sponsored by the Czech government.

Discussion and reflection on the issue of the language used in the religious worship in our country is not something new. Today, however, it is becoming more intense, and the proposed changes are now seen as essential. This issue of the language of religious worship was discussed last Saturday at a one-day conference organized by the Volos Academy for Theological Studies, in which exceptionally interesting views and suggestions were exchanged. The director of the Academy, Dr Pantelis Kalaïtzidis, analyzes with us today in “Thessalia” the contours of the debate over the issue of changing the language of our religious services.

.jpg "to_zitima_tis_glossas_afisa(1).jpg") On Saturday, January 21, the Volos Academy for Theological Studies of the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias and the Metropolis’ Youth Association jointly organized a one-day conference on:
“The Issue of Language in Worship.”
Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias opened the conference by describing the contours of the debate on this issue (all sides share a common Orthodox faith and love for its worship; it is an intra-Orthodox issue, etc.),
while the president of the Youth Association, Maria Athanasiadou, followed by highlighting the eucharistic dimension of the Church’s worship and language.
