On Orthodox theology’s presence and absence
from the ideological developments of the 20th century,
with contributions from representatives of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies
An international academic seminar of doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars on the central theme “The Presence or the Absence of Orthodox Theological Reflection in Contemporary Ideologies and Its Ecumenical Significance” was held in Prague, Czech Republic, from February 3-5. The seminar was organized by the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague (PTF), in conjunction with the International Baptist Theological Seminary (IBTS) and Jabok College. This conference constituted part of a broader academic program devoted to the issue “The Symbolic Mediation of Wholeness in Western Orthodoxy,” which was sponsored by the Czech government.

.jpg "to_zitima_tis_glossas_afisa(1).jpg") On Saturday, January 21, the Volos Academy for Theological Studies of the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias and the Metropolis’ Youth Association jointly organized a one-day conference on:
“The Issue of Language in Worship.”
Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias opened the conference by describing the contours of the debate on this issue (all sides share a common Orthodox faith and love for its worship; it is an intra-Orthodox issue, etc.),
while the president of the Youth Association, Maria Athanasiadou, followed by highlighting the eucharistic dimension of the Church’s worship and language.

Volos Academy for Theological Studies Meets with His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens Ieronymus |

On Friday, December 2, 2011, the Board of Directors of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies, headed by its Chairman, His Eminence Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias, met with the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymus in the Archepiscopal Hall in order to update him on the membership of the Academy’s Board of Directors as well as the Academy’s recent activities and future plans.

The International Conference in Honor of the Metropolitan of Pergamon John Zizioulas Concludes |

From 28-30 October, the Volos Academy for Theological Studies held the first international conference and honorary event entitled "Metropolitan of Pergamon John Zizioulas: Person, Eucharist, and the Kingdom of God in Orthodox and Ecumenical Perspective." The conference, as well as the entire honorary event, were broadcast live on the internet TV channel intv.gr .
In the first afternoon session of the conference’s first day, after brief remarks by the Director of the Academy, Dr. Pantelis Kalaitzidis, N. Asproulis (M.Th., Academic Collaborator of the Academy and the journal Theologia) presented the first paper on "The Neo-Patristic Method of Metropolitan of Pergamon John Zizioulas: From Fr. Georges Florovsky to the Theological Generation of the '60s." In his address, the speaker presented some of the primary aspects of Metropolitan John’s neo-patristic methodology (e.g., ontology, the existential nature of theology, the Eucharist, etc.), looking for precursors or intermediary influences in individual theologians, such as his teachers Paul Tillich and Fr. George Florovsky, as well as Vl. Lossky, Fr. John Romanides, and C. Yannaras.
