WORLD CHRISTIAN FEDERATION

EUROPEAN REGIONAL COMMITTEE MEETING

Volos Academy for Theological Studies of the Holy Diocese of Demetrias is hosting the European Regional Committee (ERC) Meeting of WSCF. This is the first time that WSCF has held a meeting in Greece.

From 25-30 September 2008 the members of the ERC gathered in Volos for their annual meeting, invited by the Volos Academy for Theological Studies.

The global office of WSCF is in Geneva and the six regional offices are in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, North America and Latin America.  WSCF was founded in 1895 and brings together students from over 100 countries globally.

Twelve members of the ERC, from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Czech Republic, UK, Italy, USA, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Serbia, and Italy, gathered to plan the activities of the European region. All activities aim to enhance and expand its relationship with local student Christian movements.

WSCF organizes seminars and thematic programmes focusing on theology, solidarity, gender, and culture and higher education. These seek to foster the development of intercultural, inter-Christian and interreligious dialogue.

The Lingua Franca programme is a special part of WSCF Europe’s activities, organizing language and leadership development trainings.  Recently, the issue of maintaining folk culture in a globalizing world was the subject of a Lingua Franca training in Poland.  From 28 August to 2 September, the Lingua Franca programme held a training on the topic of “Stop Being Silent: Identifying, Overcoming and Preventing Domestic Violence” in Slovakia.

Continuing the dialogue from the events, articles from students, participants and lecturers are published in WSCF Europe’s journal, Mozaik.
